What to Expect During Shed Construction and Delivery

At Backyard Building Systems, we value your time and satisfaction. Here's what you can expect during the shed construction and delivery process:
  • Scheduled Delivery Date: You'll receive a confirmed delivery and construction date tailored to your schedule.
  • Builder Confirmation: The assigned builder will contact you either the evening before or early the morning of your scheduled date (between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.) to confirm your order.
  • Weather Contingencies: In the event of inclement weather, we will notify you promptly and prioritize your order for the next convenient date.
  • No Need to Be Home: Your presence isn't necessary on the day of construction, but a few preparations are required.

What You Need to Prepare in Advance

To ensure a smooth construction process, please have the following ready:
  • Site Marking: Clearly mark the corners and door placement at your chosen location using stakes.
  • Electricity Access: Builders will need access to electricity for power tools; they will bring extension cords.
  • Payment Upon Completion: All orders are C.O.D. (Cash on Delivery). If you will not be present, please make payment arrangements in advance.

Build Site Requirements

For a trouble-free shed installation, follow these guidelines when preparing your site:
  • Allow 3 feet of clearance around all sides for 8' and 10' wide buildings. For 12' and 16' wide buildings, allow 4 feet of clearance.
  • Trim any overhanging trees if the shed will be built under them.
  • The site must be level within 6 inches and free of debris. Backyard Building Systems does not offer excavation or site preparation services. Delays caused by unprepared sites will incur a $200.00 trip charge.
  • If using gravel beds, railroad ties, concrete blocks, or slabs, have these ready before construction. Concrete slabs must be square, level within ½ inch, and fully cured.

Additional Considerations

  • Carrying Fees: If truck access to the site is restricted, carrying fees may apply. These fees vary based on site access, distance, and the size of the building.
  • Zoning and Permits: While permits are typically not required, it’s your responsibility to confirm local building regulations and setbacks. Your city's Building Inspections Department will have the necessary guidelines and forms. You can also reach out to us—we’re happy to assist with any paperwork or questions.
  • Site Changes: If you need to adjust your order or site details, call our main office promptly, as builders do not carry extra materials.
